Private Tour of Old Delhi, Chandni Chowk, Tuk Tuk & Food

Embark on an immersive guided tour of Old Delhi that unveils its vibrant culture, historic sites, and culinary delights. Begin your journey with a convenient pickup from your hotel, followed by a drive to the historic Jama Masjid, also known as Masjid-i Jehan-Numa. This magnificent mosque, commissioned by Mughal Emperor Shah Jahan in the 1600s, stands as one of India’s largest and most iconic religious structures. Next, climb aboard a tuk-tuk and navigate the bustling streets of Chandni Chowk, the lively heart of Old Delhi. Experience the sensory overload of this bustling market area, with its captivating blend of sights, sounds, and aromas. Explore the vibrant stalls brimming with spices, dried fruits, essential oils, and traditional sweets, and take in the sights of silver jewelry and colourful saris. Pause to sample some of the city’s renowned street food, guided by your expert tour guide who will direct you to the best stalls and hidden gems for authentic flavors. After enjoying these culinary delights, proceed to the Red Fort. Choose whether to enter this historic fort, a symbol of India's rich Mughal heritage, or simply admire its impressive facade from the outside.

Conclude your Old Delhi experience with a visit to India Gate, the solemn war memorial located at the eastern edge of New Delhi’s ceremonial axis, formerly known as Kingsway. As you make your way back to your hotel, drive past the iconic Parliament House, completing your exploration of Delhi’s historical and cultural treasures.

Points of Interest Covered:

Jama Masjid

The largest mosque in India, Jama Masjid, stands as an architectural marvel commissioned by Emperor Shah Jahan in 1656. Its vast red sandstone courtyard can host over 25,000 worshippers at once. Soaring minarets flank the structure, offering panoramic views of Old Delhi (optional climb). The mosque blends Indo-Islamic design with intricate marble detailing, and stepping inside feels like a walk back into the Mughal Empire. Your guide will explain how this sacred site functioned as both a religious epicentre and a symbol of imperial power.

Chandni Chowk Market

A labyrinth of lanes, scents, and sounds, Chandni Chowk is the heartbeat of Old Delhi. Built in the 17th century by Mughal princess Jahanara, this market once glistened under moonlight reflecting off a central canal (hence its name). Today, it’s a whirlwind of activity—textiles, perfumes, silver jewellery, and wedding goods fill the air with colour and commerce. On your tuk-tuk ride, you'll witness scenes of timeless tradition: spice vendors weighing saffron by hand, old men reading newspapers at tea stalls, and rickshaws zigzagging through crowds in beautiful chaos.

Khari Baoli

Prepare your senses for an explosion of color and aroma. Khari Baoli is where time slows down and ancient trade routes come alive. Giant burlap sacks overflow with turmeric, dried chili, cardamom, and fennel. Traders shout rates in Hindi, while porters balance 50kg sacks on their backs through alleys just a metre wide. Your guide will walk you through the history of this spice hub, sharing how it supplied ingredients to royal kitchens—and continues to spice up plates worldwide.

Sis Ganj Sahib Gurudwara

This peaceful Sikh temple sits at the heart of Old Delhi's chaos, commemorating Guru Tegh Bahadur’s martyrdom. Step inside to witness serene prayer halls, the soothing hum of kirtan (devotional singing), and the warm hospitality of the Sikh community. You'll also get a chance to visit the Langar Hall, where free meals are served daily to anyone regardless of faith or background—prepared entirely by volunteers in one of the most heartening community kitchens in India.

Paranthe Wali Gali

A narrow alleyway brimming with legacy eateries, some dating back over 100 years. This is where you’ll sample iconic stuffed parathas—filled with everything from potato and paneer to banana or even dry fruit. Fried to golden crisp perfection and served with curried vegetables and tangy pickles, this is street food at its best. Your guide will point out legendary shops and explain the family-run legacies that keep this lane timeless.

Digambar Jain Lal Mandir

Right across from the Red Fort’s Lahori Gate, this 17th-century temple is the oldest Jain temple in Delhi. Built from red sandstone, the temple is known for its ornate carvings, peaceful ambiance, and—most unusually—its bird hospital, where injured pigeons, parrots, and sparrows are lovingly cared for. It’s a serene stop that quietly reflects the Jain principle of ahimsa (non-violence).

Street Food Stops

Throughout the tour, you’ll visit 5–7 handpicked food stalls and family-run shops where cleanliness meets legacy. Sample:

Jalebi: Crisp golden spirals soaked in sugar syrup, served hot and sticky

Golgappa/Pani Puri: Hollow shells filled with spicy tamarind water and potatoes

Rabri Falooda: A creamy, cold dessert made with saffron milk, vermicelli, and rose syrup

Daulat ki Chaat (seasonal): A winter delicacy of whipped milk foam and sugar

Lassi: A cooling yogurt drink served in earthen pots

Samosas & Pakoras: Deep-fried savory bites filled with spiced potatoes or onions
