What's not allowed

Clothing that covers knees, arms, and back is recommended for visitors. Be aware that the Sistine Chapel might close unexpectedly for religious ceremonies. While photography is permitted in most areas, it's important to note that The Vatican Museums have the authority to shut down any section, including the Sistine Chapel, due to unforeseen events; this does not qualify guests for a refund.
Note: Restoration works will temporarily obscure Michelangelo’s Last Judgment from January 12–March 31, 2026. Despite these restorations, access to the Sistine Chapel remains available during this period.
