Potter’s wax museum was started in the year 1949 at St. Augustine by George L. Potter and holds a record for being the oldest wax museum in America. It houses nearly 160 unique wax figures of eminent and distinguished personalities from various fields such as sports, art, music, entertainment, literature, and America’s history. One can visit the museum with family or friends and get to interact and click pictures with these life-size wax figures. The inspiration for this wax museum stemmed from Potter’s childhood visit to London where he was awestruck upon seeing the life-size wax figures and he wanted to bring home (America) this experience.
Tiger Woods, Princess Diana, Elvis, Micheal Jordan, Angelina Jolie – you will find figures of people of importance that belong to the present and the past. The museum Founder, Potter says that he employed people from all over Europe to create the wax figures. The wax is said to have been imported from France, real hair grown by women in Italy, eyes were made and sourced from Germany, and the hands were meticulously sculpted in Belgium. It's time to meet some celebrities!
