Mary Valley Rattler Train Experience from Gympie

Get ready for a historical experience traveling across the Mary Valley in a train with a restored vintage steam engine and carriages. This journey will transport you back in time to the countryside, offering a rare glimpse of the rural community around the Mary Valley region, located behind the famous Sunshine Coast. Volunteers will guide you to your seats as you set foot on the steam train. While marveling at the old-school carriages, the train will commence its journey around the valley.

As you travel from Gympie to Amamoor, you'll encounter grazing cattle in vast farms and charming villages along the way. The lush forest will serve as the perfect backdrop for your videos of the countryside. Upon arriving at Amamoor, you'll have the chance to settle down and experience the fresh air of rural Queensland. After spending some time here, you will head back to Gympie. Don't forget to visit the Rusty Rails Cafe once your train ride is over.

What to bring

• You can bring your own food onboard. Gympie Station offers various dining options and snacks. Bring or purchase water from the Rusty Rails Cafe before departure, especially during the summer months.

What's not allowed

• Taking alcoholic beverages purchased outside the station onboard the train is not permitted. You can buy at the station on the day of the travel.

Accessibility

• The VIP Booth experience is not accessible by wheelchair. The Classic and Silver Bullet High Tea experiences are accessible by wheelchair. If you should need ramp access, please mention it during the booking process.

• This experience is not accessible by stroller/pram.

• The historic stations of Gympie and Amamoor are accessible by wheelchair.

• Coal dust exposure is possible at stations and on the train. If you have a lung condition that could be aggravated by this, caution is advised.

Additional information

• Children aged under 16 years must be supervised by an accompanying adult.

• Children aged under 2 years can travel for free if they don't need their own seat. However, if you want to ensure a seat for your child who is under 2, you should book a ticket at the child fare rate.

• For VIP Booth Experience bookings of 3 or fewer guests, you may be seated together with other VIP Experience guests.

• The schedule is subject to change depending on traffic and weather conditions on your activity date.

• Based on the train's direction, passengers may face backward for one-half of the total journey.

• Steam engine operation is dependent on weather, total fire ban, volunteer availability, and other factors beyond control. The scheduled engine may be changed due to operational requirements.

• The Sunday Service arrives back at Gympie Station at 1:30 PM, 30 minutes later than the Wednesday and Saturday services. This schedule includes a stop at Dagun Station, where you can enjoy outdoor games and optional wine and cheese tasting (available for purchase on-site).
