• Experience an art festival that brings together local and international performances and let your imagination soar! This spring, the West Kowloon FUN Arts Festival returns with great success. We have worked with artists from Hong Kong, Australia, Canada, Belgium, the United States and other places to prepare a series of family-friendly programs. Adults and children from all families are welcome to participate together to create unique experiences and unleash endless creativity. • Many wonderful programs are presented to you! Ticketed events include Carnival of the Animals, a physical theatre extravaganza by internationally renowned Australian contemporary circus Circa, La bulle by Canadian physical theatre and dance company CORPUS featuring a Pierrot mime and a transparent bubble tent, Time Keeps The Drummer, an original durational theatre experience created by UK arts company Fevered Sleep and twelve Hong Kong children, and the inclusive, multi-sensory immersive theatre performance Wonderbox by Sensorium Theatre from Australia.

Tea House Theatre Family Experience: The 90-minute, interactive showcase is performed by the young actors and musicians of the Tea House Rising Stars Troupe. It includes excerpts from two Cantonese opera productions that highlight the four fundamental skills of singing, recitation, acting and martial arts – “The Fragrant Sacrifice” from Princess Cheung Ping and Quest for the Commander Seal, an original work with interactive elements specially written for children – as well as demonstrations of traditional Cantonese music. The showcase is also narrated by an expert host, offering insight into the performance styles, traditions and techniques of this heritage art form. To recreate the atmosphere of early 20th-century tea houses, audiences are served traditional tea and dim sum during the performance.

CORPUS – La bulle: In this fully transparent private space there is nowhere to hide. Through mime, dance, text and drawing, the lone figure makes connections with his audience, creating ephemeral bonds with those who are willing to give him a little time. Dressed in the archetypal black and white costume and make-up, Pierrot is played with magical, child-like physicality by artistic director David Danzon. Embracing his solitude through poetry and imagination he transports us to worlds of fantasy. As innocence and humour shift to something more complex and cynical, the intricacy of his character will touch your heart and lead you on a journey steeped in poetry, joy, sorrow and absurdity. Performed outside on the Harbourside Lawn West, La bulle (The Bubble) places the audience in the round, with audience members free to sit or move around the set without constraint.

Grensgeval in collaboration with Aifoon – Murmur: Moving around the performance space, pulling tiny speakers from his suit, performer Camiel Corneille conjures a world full of sounds. From a pocket comes a purring cat, a swarm of bees flies through the air, two arms create the sound of cars, a finger squeaks on a window pane. An indistinct noise becomes sound of the sea, the rush of the wind, an intake of breath... As the acrobatic composer creates his live, moving landscape of loudspeakers, his choreography becomes increasingly daring. Moving from the floor to the air, he jumps, falls, rolls and flies, shaping a magical whirlwind of sounds and noises and making everyone part of a swirling soundscape!

WestK x Fevered Sleep – Time Keeps The Drummer: Time can be measured by clocks, by sunrises and sunsets, by the ebb and flow of tides, by the changing of the seasons. But what does the concept of time mean to you? Does our experience of time change with age, or when we work or play? Time Keeps The Drummer is a playful, physical performance with bold visual elements, improvised movement and dance inspired by reflections on time. Performed over a five-hour period, by Hong Kong children of different communities, the performance invites audiences to leave their everyday schedules and routines behind and consider time at their own pace and in new creative ways. The performance features live drummer Dean Li alongside a multi-layered sound installation with original music by UK composer Mariam Rezaei.

Circa – Carnival of the Animals: The Circa Carnival comes to town with whimsical and exuberant tales of creatures who tumble, fly, leap and spin their way through a multitude of imaginary multimedia landscapes. Transforming the stage with large digital animations and a soundtrack that reworks and extends Saint-Saëns’ playful classical suite, Carnival of the Animals whisks you on a thrilling circus escapade where performers stun with acrobatic feats and aerial skills. Famed for their inventiveness, precision and creativity, internationally acclaimed Circa bring the wondrous world of the animal kingdom to life in a uniquely inventive, and breathtakingly joyous, contemporary physical theatre experience.
