What to bring:
You'll need a valid photo ID or passport for entry verification. If you choose the digital audio guide, ensure you have your own headphones for an optimal listening experience. Since much of Herculaneum Archaeological Park is outdoors and features uneven ground, wear sturdy footwear that's comfortable to walk in. Bring sunscreen, sunglasses, water, and a hat as protection against varying weather conditions; also consider packing a light raincoat or umbrella since the site remains open regardless of the weather.
What’s not allowed:
- Large backpacks, suitcases, and bulky luggage are prohibited inside the park or on transfer services.
- Foods and drinks may be restricted in certain areas of the site.
- Pets aren’t permitted unless they're certified service animals.
- Smoking, alcohol consumption, and any banned substances are strictly forbidden.
- The use of flash photography or tripods and professional filming equipment might be limited within some zones.
Accessibility:
Herculaneum's uneven surfaces and steep sections mean the site isn't fully accessible, posing challenges for those with reduced mobility. Ramp access can be arranged at the entrance; however, not all areas are reachable this way. While there are restrooms available that cater to accessibility needs, no luggage storage facilities exist on-site.

- The guidebook is only in English and downloadable digitally; hard copies aren't available.
- All children must be accompanied by an adult during the visit.
- Note that certain areas might close temporarily due to restoration or operational requirements.
- Opening hours are from 8:30am to 5pm, running through October 15th to March 15th (last entry at 3:30 pm), and from 8:30 am to 7:30 pm between March 16th and October 14th (final admission at 6 pm).
- Free admission is available on the first Sunday of each month as well as select public holidays, with reduced rates for eligible visitors presenting valid ID.
