Getting started

Meet your English-speaking guide at the Silfra car park in Thingvellir National Park after getting picked up from Reykjavik. After a short briefing and equipment fitting, your guide will review safety procedures and answer any questions before you head to the water’s edge.

What to expect

Silfra fissure

Located in Thingvellir National Park, Silfra is a unique rift where the North American and Eurasian tectonic plates drift apart by about 2 centimeters each year. Glacial meltwater, filtered through volcanic rock for a century, fills this fissure, creating some of the clearest water on the planet.

Features

  • Snorkeling between continents: Swim directly in the gap between two continents, a geological phenomenon found only at Silfra.

  • Exceptional water clarity: Enjoy visibility of over 100 meters, allowing you to see vivid underwater colors and rock formations.

  • Wetsuit experience: The wetsuit lets you dive just below the surface for a closer look at Silfra’s features, while still keeping you relatively warm in 2–4°C water.

  • Free underwater photos: Capture your adventure with complimentary photos taken during your snorkeling session.

  • Guide expertise: Your guide shares insights into Silfra’s geology and ensures a safe, informative experience throughout your 30–40 minutes in the water.
