Located in the beautiful 16th-century Jerónimos Monastery, this huge museum celebrates the fascinating history of Portuguese navigators. You will learn about famous explorers who expanded the world as we know it with their great discoveries. You set out on a great adventure to explore the age of the Discoveries and the evolution of the Commercial & War Navy. The oldest exhibit here is a wooden statue of Archangel Raphael that accompanied Vasco da Gama on his voyage to India. Be prepared to be enchanted by over 17000 items that give you a peek into the Portuguese power and conquests. You’ll come across iconic masterpieces like a rowing boat decorated in neo-Viking style in 1780, the model of the Amélia royal yacht prepared in 1900, nautical astrolabes & the Santa Cruz seaplane, the first seaplane to fly over the ocean in 1922! There is much to discover at this naval treasure house with even a special section for children.
