What to Expect
Your Experience at Two Iconic Athenian Museums
A single ticket grants access to two of Athens’ most renowned cultural spots, giving you a chance to explore ancient Greek history and art in your own time.
How It Works
You can start your journey through the main entrance at each museum. Your timed-entry pass will be checked there before you head inside after a brief security scan. Once that’s done, you're all set to explore on your terms.
What You’ll See and Do
National Archaeological Museum
This is Greece's largest museum of its kind, housed in an impressive neoclassical building. It tells the story of Greek civilization from prehistoric times all the way to late antiquity.
The museum’s highlights include more than 11,000 artifacts like marble statues, bronze works, and gold treasures that range from 6,000 B.C. up until 330 A.D. The exhibits cover nearly 8,000 square meters of space and span over 8,000 years of cultural progress.
There’s also a shop inside the Hellenic Heritage Museum where you can find books and replicas inspired by what's on display. The museum is designed to be accessible for everyone — with entrances that are easy to access, lifts available at all levels, and tactile exhibits for visitors who have vision loss.
Acropolis Museum
Situated right below the Acropolis itself, this modern museum showcases items found on the sacred hill. It’s a great place to see ancient artifacts in an environment that brings them back to their original setting.
The exhibitions feature sculptures and friezes uncovered from around the Parthenon as well as everyday objects used by people long ago. One of the standout areas is the Parthenon Gallery, which has been designed so it matches the temple’s size and orientation exactly.
Visitors can enjoy wide open spaces with lots of natural light, along with glass floors that show off what's beneath the museum — archaeological finds from below ground. The views of the Acropolis from here help place the artifacts in their true historical context.
Must Know Before You Go
You'll need a valid photo ID that matches the name on your reservation in case it's checked when you arrive. Also, make sure to have your timed entry ticket ready—either printed or digital—as it’s required for admission.
What’s not allowed
Larger bags, suitcases, and oversized luggage aren't permitted inside the museums due to security policies.
Eating or drinking is not allowed in exhibition areas.
Pets are prohibited unless they're registered service animals.
Flash photography, tripods, and filming gear can’t be used within the exhibition spaces.
Accessibility
The museums offer wheelchair access with ramps, lifts, and accessible restrooms available throughout.
A wheelchair is provided at the museum’s information desk for visitor use.
If you have total or partial vision loss, a list of 20 exhibits can be obtained from the information desk.
There are dedicated entrances and facilities designed specifically for disabled visitors.
Additional information
All guests must use timed entry tickets. You'll only be able to enter during your chosen time slot.
Your ticket is valid from 15 minutes before until 15 minutes after the time you selected.

Tips for Visitors
- Book your timed entry in advance, especially during busy times, to ensure you secure a spot and avoid disappointment.
- Bring your printed or digital ticket with you — it’s needed for quick access at the museum entrances without delays.
- If you're visiting with someone who has vision loss, ask about the list of 20 exhibits designed specifically for them upon arrival.
- Plan to explore both museums in one day, but allow plenty of time since each offers a vast collection of ancient artifacts and history.
