Before you set off on your adventure, here’s what you need to know:
What to bring
To ensure a smooth experience during your visit, remember these essentials: Carry a valid photo ID or passport for entry verification and any applicable admission benefits. Download audio tours in advance and keep your phone charged to avoid connectivity issues on-site. For the self-guided audio tour included with your pass, pack some earphones. Have cash or a bank card ready for souvenirs, snacks, or refreshments at museum cafés and local kiosks. Wear sturdy, comfortable walking shoes suitable for navigating the Acropolis’ marble steps, rocky terrain, and long walks during day trips. Protect yourself from strong Mediterranean sun exposure with a wide-brimmed hat, sunglasses, and sunscreen while exploring outdoor sites. If you're joining a full-day trip to Delphi or Corinth, bring a small day bag containing snacks, water, and essentials for your comfort.
What's not allowed
To maintain the integrity of these historic sites, certain items are prohibited: Flash photography, tripods, drones, and professional filming equipment are banned at both the Acropolis and inside the Acropolis Museum. Large backpacks, suitcases, or bulky bags must be left in designated cloakrooms as they cannot enter the Acropolis or Museum premises. Food and drinks (except plain bottled water) are not permitted within the Acropolis Museum or archaeological sites. Pets are generally prohibited at these locations except for certified guide dogs and service animals. Smoking and chewing gum inside the site and museum areas are strictly forbidden. To protect their preservation, climbing or touching ancient monuments, sculptures, or architectural remains is also banned. On bus and day trips, open containers of food and alcohol typically aren't allowed onboard.
Accessibility
The Acropolis Museum offers full wheelchair accessibility with step-free entrances, elevators to every floor, and accessible restrooms throughout the building. Free wheelchairs can be borrowed from the museum’s Information Desk, while Braille guides in Greek and English are available for visitors with visual impairments. Accessibility at the Acropolis is limited due to mobility challenges; an elevator near the South Slope entrance may not always be operational as it's managed by the venue itself. Contact +30 210 3214172 or +30 210 9238470 a day before your visit to confirm availability. Free admission for both visitors and one escort presenting valid disability documentation is available at the Acropolis. Wheelchair-accessible restrooms are situated near the museum and main entrances of the site. The hop-on, hop-off bus included in the pass features wheelchair-accessible seating with ramps; however, availability may vary by line and vehicle. Please note that day trips to Delphi or Corinth aren't fully accessible due to uneven ground.
Additional information
To enhance your Athens exploration while saving on entry fees, choose Classic for 1 extra attraction, Premium for 2, or Deluxe for 3; see the full list of attractions here. Your MegaPass becomes active on your chosen start date and remains valid for 7 consecutive days, offering the freedom to explore at your own pace. The 2-day hop-on hop-off bus ticket is effective from your first ride and stays valid for two full consecutive days across all routes. Note that each attraction can only be used once per pass activation, which is non-transferable thereafter. Some attractions like the Acropolis require a reserved date and entry time; booking early is recommended, especially during busy summer months (June to August). Certain day tours, such as those visiting the Temple of Poseidon, Delphi, and Ancient Corinth have separate on-site entry fees not included in your pass. Audio guides are available in five languages and can be downloaded directly onto your phone. While experiences run from 9am to 6pm, time slots for Parthenon tickets are allocated by local partners; same-day availability cannot be guaranteed, so booking in advance is advised.
